It is pretty simple. A clean probe works faster and is more stable. Residue on a probe changes its performance meaning slow, inconsistent and inaccurate results. Spending some time maintaining your probe will give you accurate, fast results. If you have a Pen without a replaceable probe, you will get a much longer useful life.
